Tabitha & Timothy

Doves

Tabitha and Timothy are our pair of ambassador Doves. While these two doves get along beautifully, they are actually different species. Tabitha is a Eurasian Collared Dove, a species that does not occur in the wild here. As an abandoned pet, Tabitha was found struggling to survive in the wild. Timothy, a native Mourning Dove, was found in the wild approaching people and landing on their heads for attention. We suspect Timothy was illegally raised by people and released back to the wild. This wonderful pair can be seen on our educational programs helping us to teach the importance of keeping wildlife wild and never releasing pets outdoors.

Did You Know?

Mourning Doves are named for their sad sounding vocalization which is said to sound like a person in mourning. This coo, heard during the daytime, is often mistaken for the call of an owl!
