Amelia

American Kestrel

Found in Queens in 2013, Amelia was admitted to our hospital after she was picked up by a NYC Police Officer who recognized she needed help. Amelia was found on the busy sidewalk of a NYC street with no apparent fear of people and no interest in flying away. While Amelia can’t talk to tell us her story, we suspect Amelia was kept illegally and then released to the wild. Amelia is imprinted on people and looks to people for food and companionship.

Did You Know?

American Kestrels are the smallest Falcons in all of North America. Their bigger North American falcon cousins are the medium-sized Merlin and the much larger Peregrine Falcon (the fastest animal on the planet.)
