Fig

Virginia Opossum

Fig was admitted to our hospital as an orphaned baby in the summer of 2022. Fig’s mother was hit and killed by a car. Fortunately, thanks to the quick actions of a Good Samaritan, Fig and her siblings were rescued from their dead mother’s pouch. Unfortunately, Fig sustained the loss of her tail, an important appendage for all opossums. Due to this injury, Fig is unable to be released to the wild. Fig is a crowd favorite on our education programs!

Did You Know?

Opossums are North America’s only Marsupial! Marsupials are mammals who carry their babies in their pouch. Opossums can have as many as thirteen babies which will be protected by the pouch until they are about two months old and climb onto the mom’s back!

Sponsor Fig

Symbolically adopt one or more of our resident animals for yourself or as a gift to someone you love. Adoptions help us to provide professional care for our ambassador animals including veterinary visits, enclosure enhancements, high-quality food and enrichment.

Help Us Support Wildlife
