Hercules

Eastern Box Turtle

Hercules was admitted to our hospital from a local veterinary office where he was dropped off by a member of the public. Hercules was uninjured, however his origin was not known to the veterinary staff. Due to his unknown origin location, Hercules is unable to be released to the wild. Box Turtles have a very strong homing instinct which will make them try to find their way back home. As we do not know where Hercules came from, if we released him, he likely would not make it back to his home territory.

Did You Know?

Eastern Box Turtles are omnivores with a very diverse diet. They enjoy feeding on both plant and animal matter including insects, carrion and eggs!
