Poppy

Virginia Opossum

Meet Poppy the Opossum, a young orphan who arrived at our rehabilitation center this summer after being found alone with a severe injury to her eye. From the moment she came in, it was clear she needed specialized care, and our team worked tirelessly to stabilize and comfort her. Although she healed well, the injury left her permanently blind in one eye, making it unsafe for her to return to the wild. Because of this, Poppy will remain with us as a non-releasable resident, where she can live safely, receive enrichment, and help teach others about the challenges wildlife often face.

Did You Know?

Opossums are North America’s only Marsupial! Marsupials are mammals who carry their babies in their pouch. Opossums can have as many as thirteen babies which will be protected by the pouch until they are about two months old and climb onto the mom’s back!

Sponsor Poppy
