Halloween Raffle – Get Your Tickets Today!

Our Halloween Raffle provides significant support for the care of our Animal Ambassadors. These birds, mammals & reptiles cannot be released back to the wild due to permanent injuries. These animals help us teach 200+ education programs annually! Your participation in this raffle makes a big difference & we are grateful for your support!

Meet our Ambassador Animals at The Next Chapter -Long Island’s largest independent bookstore! This meet & greet will feature several of our wildlife animals including a turtle, opossum & raptors!

Raptorama at Jamaica Bay

October 12th – 10am & 11am raptor shows

Join us at Raptorama Festival at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge! 

Learn about the hawks & owls of Jamaica Bay and meet some of our amazing raptor ambassadors! Don’t miss out on the guided walk throughout the refuge to get a look at the wild raptors flying south for the winter. Bring your binoculars to spend the day birding & enjoying one of the most significant bird sanctuaries in the northeastern United States!

It’s Baby Squirrel Season…Again!

Did you know that Eastern Gray Squirrels have two breeding seasons a year? The first round of babies arrive in early spring and the second in late summer. 

Baby squirrels often become injured or separated from their mom when their nest is disturbed during tree work or due to severe storms. Through our hotline, our rehabilitators assess each situation with photos and determine if babies need to be brought to a wildlife rehabilitator. If baby squirrels are healthy, a reunion with mom is very likely. We walk callers through how to do so and have had great success reuniting many squirrel families!

The best time of year for tree work is November-February when there aren’t active nests for baby wildlife. If you find a baby squirrel in possible distress, please contact us for advice:
