Wildlife Education Volunteers

Wildlife Center of Long Island provides a permanent home to wild ambassador animals with disabilities that prevent their release to the wild. Our Education volunteers help us to provide the highest level of care to these animals. In addition to animal care, volunteers help us educate the public about Long Island’s wildlife, the many challenges they face, and what actions can be taken to help these animals.

Turtle Rescue - Wildlife Center of Long Island

Volunteers care for our animal ambassadors consisting of turtles, snakes, squirrels, opossums, doves, hawks, owls, and a crow. Daily responsibilities include cage cleaning, diet preparation, feeding, cage maintenance, and enrichment. Additionally, volunteers are responsible for assisting in general upkeep of the hospital including laundry, dishes, sweeping, and mopping.

Animal Care & Education volunteers will also have the chance to assist our educators on the many different educational programs we offer. Volunteers will help with transportation, organization, set-up/breakdown of programs and occasional animal handling. Speaking in these programs is not required!
